Artist Marie Brozova's memories of her art exhibition in Prague's Jindrisska Tower, that immedately followed her first public drawing event.
The exhibition of my drawings in the wooden belfry of newly renovated Jindrisska Tower was one of the most beautiful. My colorful drawings drawn by colored pencils hanging on the ancient wooden beams gave the irregular space new dimension. From the windows you saw the roofs of old Prague; in the drawings you found the views into the world of my imagination and dreams.
One of the drawings, titled “The Island where My Dreams Are Born”, caused a very interesting meeting. Two courageous fifteen year-old girls from Frankfurt, traveling in the Czech Republic on their own, visited the exhibition and phoned me to find out something more about this particular drawing. They were lucky; I just came to Prague to restock some sold reproductions. It was easy to meet them in the mysterious Jindrisska Tower belfry.
At first they wanted to know, if I find the ideas for my drawings in my dreams. When I agreed, one of the girls claimed to have seen one of my drawings in her dream. Her eyes were open wide with astonishment.
The other German girl told me a very interesting story about her grandfather, also a painter, who in his youth painted a drawing of a lady wearing a long dress covered with dozens of human eyes, exactly the same eerie creature I portrayed in my drawing Lady Night.
We talked about the world of visions and fantasies, we discussed the vertiginous thought, that this world of imagination might be accessible for all of us, existing somewhere beyond our reality, but we can enter it in our dreams and bring visions back to our world. And when we are able to express these visions, make drawings of them, they speak to all the dreamers in language that is woven from the thread of their most secret dreams.
Thanks to these two enterprising students I know, that my drawings got as far as Cameroon, where one of them now lives with her parents.
